I'm looking for information on my great-grandfather, James H. Mason (married Lucy Caroline Betterton) and his sister Margaret Ann Mason (married Thomas Charles Lewis)in Union and Morehouse parishes in north Louisiana.James and Margaret were cared for by Mary Malinda Wilds (she was married to William McDowell and then Fred Epps Mayo)when James was 4 and Margaret 9. So I assume something happened to their parents by 1850. Later James lived and died in Caddo parish - Shreveport, La.- in 1899. He had children Bertha, Maggie, Lawrence (my grandfather) and Florence (twins), Alexander (who was murdered), Augustus, Mary, William Leslie (Willie), Frederick Arnold (Fred).James was a typesetter for the Shreveport Times in/around the latter 1800s. He had also been the editor for the Union Record in Farmerville, La. (Union parish) Please e-mail me with anything you know about him -especially his parents names.
