I am looking for my father, from whom I have been separated since 1946. He is:-
John Richard Coleman.
34074748 T/Sergt
U.S.Army (Engineer)
He flew in bombers and was based at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England in WWII.
his address in April 1945 as: -
163, North Main Street,
Memphis,
Tennessee,
his father had the same name and was an engineer;
he was 28 years of age at that time, meaning that his year of birth was either 1915 or '16.
I was told that his parents were both deceased when he met my mother: he appears to have
been raised by a Ruth and Clarence Vigus of Tennessee, USA, who were witnesses at my
christening in Marple Bridge, Cheshire, UK. My mother and I travelled on the Queen Mary
to New York, then south by train to Memphis, Tennessee shortly after the end of WW2, in
1945/6, and stayed for a time with the Vigus's. After a short time the relationship failed and
my mother retuned to the UK with me in, I think, 1946.
My e-mail address is as above or admin@campbellassociates.co.uk - preferably the former.
I would be grateful for any help.
John B Campbell. nee Coleman.
