Hi Janet,
I am at a brick wall too :)
My GG-Grandfather's name was Peter TRAUTMAN married to Julia FIECK. According to the 1900 Census of Knox County, Nebraska he was born 1856 in Germany and Julia in 1869 Germany. Julia's naturalization 1st papers say immigrated May 1886, arrived port of St. Louis...very odd since there was no port of St. Louis! I think what really happened is that the port of arrival was New Orleans and that a steamship was boarded up the Mississippi to St. Louis, MO. I have the family placed in Illinois in 1889,Nebraska between 1900-1905, and North Dakota 1905-1907(Julia remarried 1907 and remained in ND until 1930)Peter died between 1905-1907 North Dakota. I am lost as to background for Peter other than birth year and country. He has a naturization record dated 1903 in ND, but I haven't got the copy yet. These early immigration records prior to Oct. 1906 were very bleak. No ship names are given or port of departure.
There is lots of TROUTMAN genealogy on-line but very little with the TRAUTMAN spelling. In the ND naturization Database, all the TRAUTMAN's are immigrated from Russia except Peter and Julia... son Albert William born 1902 NE moved to Kentucky, and I wonder if he went there because the family had prior ties there? Lots of TROUTMAN/TRAUTMAN in Kentucky prior to 1902. I wont know if there in PA ties until I know if Peter's parents immigrated.
Best of Luck to you!

: I have hit a brick wall with my greatgrandparents. Info I have is that they were both born in Darmstadt and emigrated to Pittsburgh, PA. Peter Louis Trautman was born in 1842 and died in Pittsburgh in 1906. Elizabeth Bower(?)was born in 1840 & died in Pittsburgh in 1923. They had 7 children, one of which, George Adam Trautman, b. 12-13-1870, was my grandfather. I assume all children were born in America. Not sure if they were married before emigrating or met here and married. Do not know dates of entry. All family members who could help have died and family bible has been lost. Does anyone have any connection or possibly can lead me in right direction.
: Will be forever grateful.
