My paternal great grandfather Edgar Bird left the Birmingham area of England in about 1910/1911 after the death of his wife, he left his son Howard (my grandfather in the care of his wife's relatives). It was known that he was a civil engineer and lived and worked for some years in Argentina in the rail industry. We believe he spent his later years with distant cousins in Florida. I am led to believe that Bird is a Welsh name and is as common in some parts of Wales as Jones.
Just as a coincidence my mother's maiden name was Cook, this branch of her family originally came from Broadway in Worcestershire, England.
