Grandfather: John Douglas born circa 1900
Great Grandfather: John Douglas born circa 1858
My great grandfather was born on the isle of bute, scotland and went to sea at the age of 14. His whereabouts were unknown until he returned to scotand around the age of 40. The family know that he travelled to australia, south america various other places around the world but settled in the u.s. for a number of years prior to his return home.
We do not know where he lived, what he did or whether he had any family but interestingly enough he immediately secured a position as a local police sergeant, this would suggest that he had previous experience in this field.
Family names are John, William, Walter and Archibald
(no female names appear to repeat)
Can anyone fill in those missing years (say 1875-1899)?
