The name Robottom originated in the English county
of Lancashire. More correctly 'rue bottom' it's meaning is: 'the lower slopes of a wooded valley'. There are many different spellings of the name to be found in the archives - I have found 19 different to present, from Ruebottoms to Rowbotham.
The Allens are connected with the Welsh side of the family. A couple of brothers Robottom moved from Tamworth, England, to Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales during the 19th century to seek their fame and fortune - something one of them achieved with distinction. A decendant, still alive today, married into the Allen's family and lives very close by me, here in Banbury, North Oxfordshire, England.
