I am searching for the maiden name of my grandmother, Mary Ann, born 1852 in, probably, Wigtown. She travelled to Oldham, along with her sister Charlotte Elizabeth, in 1870 (app). It is thought that their father was the dominie (schoolmaster) in Wigtown or perhaps Dumfries. The sisters married, in Oldham, two brothers named Ashworth in 1875 (app). My only visual record is a small snapshot of the sisters, another lady and a maid at the door of a house in Dumfries. A search of the b.m.d records has failed to disclose the marriages. The surname Crombie-Keavan was given to me by the grandddaughter of Charlotte but no such name exists in Scottish records. I need her true family name in order to enquire further into Scotland.
Any tenuous lead will be appreciated.
